The Triforce is a "golden power" bestowed by the gods, grants the wish that resides within the heart of the one who touches it.

If one with a righteous heart touches it, it grants a righteous wish… If one with an evil heart touches it, it grants an evil wish…

The stronger a person's wish, the more the Triforce will manifest its power.

Ganon's wish was to hold the world in his grasp. That evil wish transformed the Sacred Realm into the Dark World.
